THE Gold Coast’s only waterfront shopping centre is to undergo a major redevelopment.
Marina Mirage is the latest to centre to be refurbished after Pacific Fair, Harbour Town, Australia Fair and Robina all made drastic improvements in recent years.
Details for the 30-year-old centre remain confidential as negotiations take place, however Makris Group COO Jason Makris confirmed there was a three-phase redevelopment plan in the pipeline.
In the meantime, several hospitality operators are preparing to unveil both new and refurbished offerings at the Main Beach destination.
“Marina Mirage has long been a must-visit for locals, day trippers, international and domestic tourists and we are determined to ensure it continues to deliver quality dining to match its retail prestige and million-dollar views,” Mr Makris said.
“Competition to attract diners and shoppers has never been tougher on the Gold Coast and that’s why it’s so pleasing to see both existing and new tenants upping the ante when it comes to what they offer.
“Lifestyle destinations need to continue to evolve and there’s no doubt change is unfolding at Marina Mirage.”
The announcement of an upcoming major redevelopment comes after long term tenant Providore Bakery went into liquidation last week.
However Mr Makris said a new gelataria was set to open next month at the site formerly occupied by The Mirage Convenience Store, an “exciting” new cafe offering would open in September in the former home of Marina Boulevard cafe, Sunset cafe Bar and Grill would be refurbished in coming months and a new waterfront venue would open in 2019.
Mr Makris said Marina Mirage’s three-phase redevelopment strategy would be announced in detail in coming months.
