COUNCIL has given the green light to planning for a Surfers South Oceanway.

The section is 1.6km from Laycock Street to First Avenue and is expected to be completed by December 2020.

It is one of the last pieces needed to complete an Oceanway down the coastline, creating a continuous foreshore pedestrian and cycling pathway.

The cost will be $250,000 in 2019-2020 and $3.5 million for construction in 2020-21.
