Share bike operator given until tomorrow to remove dozens of red bikes strewn across the Gold Coast

A SHARE bike operator has until 5pm tomorrow to remove dozens of share bikes left around the Gold Coast.
The order comes just days after Reddy Go began dropping off share bikes in Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Southport.
Reddy Go is one of the companies which have been in hot water in Sydney after bikes were left strewn in trees and left in waterways.
The bikes were dropped off without approval from the Gold Coast City Council.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said he was made aware the bikes were being placed around the city.
“Council has issued the operator with a notice that gives them until 5pm tomorrow to remove them or we will take further action,” he said.
“I will not expand on what that likely action is but we have no room for people trying to start businesses in our city without the proper approvals.”
The ride share scheme works through a smart phone app which allows users to view where bikes are available.
They can then scan in the QR code on the bike using their phone and hire it for about $1.99 for half an hour.
Riders can drop the bikes off wherever they finish using them.
The order to stop comes just months before the council’s own bike share scheme is set to get off the ground.
Cr Tate announced in July the council would be looking for an operator of a bike share scheme which is set to launch in January next year.
