VETERAN councillor Paul Taylor says he intends to stand for a new super tourism area after boundary changes were finalised today for Gold Coast City Council divisions.
The Change Commission has completed its review, prompted by population growth, which will see Broadbeach combined with Surfers Paradise to The Spit.
Southport will remain intact but the Burleigh town centre has been removed from Councillor Pauline Young’s Division 12 and included in Daphne McDonald’s Division 13.
HOW COUNCIL PLANS TO SAVE HISTORIC BUILDING
The other major changes are in the north and impact on Division 3 and Division 4 which could potentially see Cameron Caldwell and Kristyn Boulton opposing each other at the poll in March next year.
Cr Taylor will look to replace Gary Baildon, who is the only councillor indicating retirement plans.
“I’m feeling good. At this stage I will be (running). There’s another eight months to go. We will see what happens in that eight months,” Cr Taylor told the Bulletin.

“I will be in Division 10, that runs up to the Spit. It starts from where the (Broadbeach) casino is, I lose Pacific Fair (to Cr Pauline Young).
“It does excite me. I think it will be a great division. Gary has done tremendous work up there. I’d like to follow him on.
“Age wise — I’m getting on now mate — but I’ve always been a worker. I knock around with lot of younger people than my age group. I can assure I can’t sit there and read books all day.”
Cr Caldwell declined to speculate on whether he would run for Mayor or against Cr Boulton.

“Well, look we have got 232 days to go until the next council election and the people of the Gold Coast want us to get on with the job we are doing regardless of where the new boundaries will be,” he said.
“We’re elected to be a competent and strong council and I believe that we will get on with that job.”
COUNCIL BACKS HINTERLAND TOURIST DEVELOPMENT
Cr Caldwell said the new boundaries for Division Four had only been released and he like other councillors needed to “take stock of what the future will hold” before making announcements.
