IT’S no secret that mozzies are the buzzing, biting bane of our existence and Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has announced a formal plan to eradicate them from the city.
Cr Tate said an aerial “blitz” around Pimpama would kill mosquito larvae in the mangroves and tidal inlets that were causing most of the concern.
It is important to start the program as soon as possible after the recent rains, he said.
“Timing is everything and we know there is no point spraying while heavy rain is occurring.
“We needed to wait until the recent rain had passed as we need to target stagnant water in the wetlands and creek areas.
“That’s what we are doing at Pimpama for the next two days and I encourage any residents with an issue regarding mosquitoes to contact their local councillor.”
At the press conference the Mayor gave rallying war cries against the Gold Coast’s plague of mosquitoes – saying “we’ll fight them in the mangroves, we’ll fight them on the beaches – kill them dead.”
Mayor Tate says we can do our bid as residents by monitoring bodies of water on our properties and overturning any vessels that may act as a “breeding ground” for mosquitoes.
Residents are also urged to make any complaints via the City of Gold Coast website.
