HELLO HOTA!
TIM Minchin will make history when he becomes the first performer to play the newly christened Home of the Arts’ (HOTA) majestic outdoor stage on the Gold Coast on March 17.
“I’ve just moved back to Australia after 12 years living overseas and the first stage I get to play on is a spanking new, world-class amphitheatre on the beautiful Gold Coast,” Minchin said.
“It’s a hugely exciting venue in a part of the country I’ve not been in years — can’t frickin’ wait.”
Minchin’s show will open the 2018 Outdoor Program for HOTA — the new name for the city’s arts and cultural precinct.
Released this morning, the HOTA Outdoor Program also includes an orchestral show by Neil Finn on June 30 and a concert for dogs by HOTA’s first artist in residence, Laurie Anderson, on June 24.
Australia’s best-known atheist, Minchin is a showman and provocateur also known as the creative force behind Matilda the Musical, as an actor and performer on TV’s Californication, Rock n Roll Nerd and the ABCs Secret River and Squinters.
Minchin has also earned a huge international following for his satirical songs such as his ode to marriage equality I Still Call Australia Homophobic and his controversial Come Home (Cardinal Pell), in which he lambasted Australia’s highest-ranking Catholic for failing to appear at the Royal Commission into Child Abuse in person.
While Minchin’s HOTA show is free, tickets will be required for entry. HOTA subscribers will receive an email link to reserve tickets at 9am on Thursday, with any remaining tickets to be released on Friday.
All other shows go on sale online on Friday at 9am. Visit HOTA.com.au for details.
