The new-look Coplicks Family Sports Park at Tallebudgera has reopened after the four-year revamp which has seen a laundry list of new features added to the 23ha site.

The complex now has a new clubhouse, three new sports fields, cycle ways, amenities, road access, lighting and extra carparks.

Mayor Tom Tate said it would reduce pressure on the city’s other sporting fields.

“In 2012 we could see a shortfall in sport and recreation land in the southern part of the city, so we doubled the space by buying an adjoining golf course and got to work creating a regional sports and recreation venue,” he said.

“The project posed a number of challenges especially as it was in a flood prone area so we prioritised irrigation and drainage measures to ensure that after heavy rainfall these fields can recover quickly.”

“We have already seen the benefits of that after experiencing flood events in recent years.”

Of the $10 million spent on the project, $8.5 million came from the council with the remaining $1.5 million was put up by the State Government.

it is used by the Gold Coast United Football Club, Tallebudgera Valley Football Club and Twin City Baseball Club.

Sports Minister Mick de Brenni said the redevelopment was important for these clubs.

“Coplick Family Sports Park is an important sport and recreational complex which will now be used by even more Gold Coast locals and sporting teams.

“Work began four years ago and the 23ha park is now a major sporting asset for the Gold coast community which will encourage active lifestyles while enabling people to build social connections.”
