CONSTRUCTION will begin early next year on the Gold Coast’s answer to New York’s Central Park.
The Gold Coast City Council today voted to go to tender on the $15 million Robina City Parklands.
Area councillor Hermann Vorster confirmed the 17ha park, to be built next to Cbus Stadium, would be opened by mid-2021.
“Early works to transport bulk earth to the site from the M1 is already a clear indication we are not talking about a plan anymore but an actual project,” he said.
“It will be a destination for every day of the week because you will be able to come down and meet friends for coffee overlooking Mudgeeraba Creek or for events.
“It will become an epicentre of fun and commerce for the central Gold Coast.”
The parklands will feature:
• An interactive water play area.
• Off-leash dog area.
• Kiosk and cafe capable of supporting major events.
• Village green, which can cater for 7000 spectators during major events.
• Yoga lawns, sports fields.
• Giant adventure playgrounds.
• A series of interactive nature-inspired activities for children.

The parklands will rival the State Government’s recently unveiled Spit masterplan vision for a coastal version of New York’s famed Central Park.
A range of infrastructure will be created around the parklands to improve its accessibility, including a footpath connecting it with Cheltenham Drive.
The Bulletin last year first revealed the project was on the cards.
