Gold Coast Oceanway to connect to Tallebudgera Creek Park via new boardwalk upgrade

A key piece of the Gold Coast’s popular Oceanway will connect to a major park via a new $3.4m boardwalk upgrade. See the new plans for Tallebudgera.

One of the Gold Coast’s most popular spots will get a facelift with a $3.4m walking platform to connect it to the city Oceanway added by August.

Construction began on the Tallebudgera boardwalk upgrade on February 12 to connect Tallebudgera Creek Park to the city Oceanway.

The boardwalk is an idyllic natural precinct used by thousands of Gold Coasters and visitors each year.

Mayor Tom Tate said upgrades were crucial to accommodate growing numbers.

“A new and improved boardwalk will be the final piece of the puzzle in our Tallebudgera Creek upgrades,” Mr Tate said.

“The improvements are crucial to accommodate a growing number of people and improving safety and aesthetics, as well as reducing future maintenance and boosting protection against erosion impacts from floods, storms and king tides.”

The path follows other improvements on the nearby erosion wall and the Tallebudgera Creek Park, completed in February as part of a $3.4m funding package.

A new four metre-wide deck will replace the existing two-metre path, boasting extra amenities such as seating, lighting, and a viewing platform.

The upgrade also includes new landscaping with 30 trees being planted with a range of coastal vegetation.

There will also be new support piers and a small rock wall for erosion protection.

The upgrades were funded by a federal government grant of $2,473,650 via the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

During construction, access along the boardwalk and beach between Tallebudgera Creek Park and the off-leash dog area will be temporarily closed.

A temporary detour via the Gold Coast Highway and nearby surf club was made.
