PALM Beach is about to get a new bar and restaurant in a surprise turn of events.
Developer Drew Group has unveiled plans for an eatery on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Palm Beach Avenue on the site formerly occupied by the Spikexx Expresso cafe.
The developer is preparing to build an eight-storey tower. It gained council approval in August.

But elements of the design have changed, including plans for a medical centre on the ground floor dumped in favour of a licensed cafe.
The 334sq m ground floor will front the highway just metres from the future route of the light rail.
SHOCK TURNAROUND IN PALM BEACH DEVELOPMENT
In a planning report to council, the developer said it never intended to go ahead with a medical centre.
“It was clearly presented to council at all stages throughout the development process that this space was to act as a placeholder and would be converted to a more appropriate commercial use in the near future.
