“For now, the majority of Full Council felt the development proposed was worthy of support and it has been supported today.’’
Cr Tate said a future amendment to the plan may place restrictions on the height and density of some proposed absolute beachfront developments in the Main Beach area.
The City Plan was introduced in 2016 and has been criticised by opponents for its potential impact on suburbs surrounding the light rail route.

In August there was outrage from Mermaid Beach residents when a developer submitted plans for a 25-storey tower overlooking Hedges Ave.
The tower, named Mahala, will have 94 units and be built on the north side of Peerless Ave, the most southern frontier of the unlimited height restrictions zone.
This sparked an outcry from residents furious about the project, with houses on the opposite side of the street zoned for three storeys or less.
