A RESIDENTIAL house just a short walk from one of the world’s most famous beaches is set to be replaced by an ultra-thin 14-storey tower.
The Kirra Apartments is planned for a 1012 sqm site on Coolangatta’s Coyne Street by Developer Kirra One.
The existing two-storey unit building which dates back to the 1960s will be demolished to make way for the tower, which will cover 55 per cent of the site.

It will have 50 units, with half to be two-bedrom units and the rest three bedrooms.
There will be 66 resident parks and six visitor spaces.
A planning report submitted to the Gold Coast City Council said the project had a critical distinction compared to other proposed towers in the beachside suburb.
“It is important to note that, unlike many of the currently proposed or recently completed developments within Kirra, the proposed development has been designed to offer a more affordable apartment product,” the report reads.
“In doing so, the proposal is enhancing the housing choice available within the local area and assists in overcoming an apparent dwelling supply shortage in the city.”
