TWO people have been arrested after they were allegedly spotted using a bong by the council’s security camera network.

Officers from Robina police station pounced on a group of four people in Varsity Lakes’ Frascott Park around 7pm last night after CCTV captured them allegedly using drugs.

Police were tipped off by council staff monitoring the feed and were on scene within minutes to nab the group of three men and a woman.

One surrendered immediately to officers, while the other three fled into a nearby backyard.

Police allegedly found a bag containing a “green leafy material” and a quantity of money.

Area councillor Hermann Vorster praised officers and said the CCTV network was proving its use.

“It puts beyond doubt the merit of safety cameras in suburban areas,” he said.

“It should be the death knell of the suggestion that CCTV only belongs on the Glitter Strip to protect the tourists of the Gold Coast.

“There is nowhere left to hide in Robina and Varsity Lakes for those peddling drugs.”

Frascott Park has seven CCTV cameras, while there are now 57 across Robina and Varsity Lakes.
