Gold Coast City Council: Meet Coast’s new acting mayor

While the mayor and his deputy are away, a new city leader has come out to play after being named the new Gold Coast Acting Mayor.

A GOLD Coast city councillor has been named Acting Mayor.

Paradise Point councillor and city planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell has temporarily stepped into the city’s top job from this morning.

He takes the reigns for a week in the absence of Mayor Tom Tate and Deputy Mayor Donna Gates, both of who are on annual leave.

Cr Caldwell, who is viewed by members of the city’s business community as a potential successor to Cr Tate, will continue with his normal duties through his period acting as mayor.

Cr Caldwell, who was first elected seven years ago, briefly served as acting mayor for a handful of days in late 2012.
