LONG-serving Gold Coast councillor Donna Gates has revealed her political future ahead of the next election.
The Acting Mayor, who represents Division 1 in the northern Gold Coast, has confirmed she will contest the March 2020 election for another four-year term at city hall.

Cr Gates, who ran unopposed in 2016, also insisted she has no plans to seek the mayoralty, just a day after incumbent Mayor Tom Tate revealed he would seek a third term in the city’s top job.
“Absolutely not,” she said, when asked.
“For sure I will be there (at the next election). I still have a great passion for the northern Gold Coast and there is still much to be delivered

“I will be there to do my job for the people if they want me there.
Cr Gates confirmed she would not be holding any fundraisers ahead of the next poll on the back of the State Government’s controversial changes to donation laws.
“I won’t be doing any fund raisers,” she said.
I think I have a fairly strong work ethic for 11 years in that community and things haven’t changed as far as my work is concerned and I look forward to continuing.”
Cr Gates recently stood down from council’s power planning committee over the changes.
