Cairns MP Rob Pyne has tabled documents in State Parliament which include a statement by former Gold Coast City Council major projects director Greg Young.
The council voted to sack Mr Young without a payout in 2005 after he was accused of sending sexually charged messages to a female secretary, sparking an industrial relations hearing and court case.
In his statement, Mr Young said: “While employed at GCCC I and other directors had knowledge of corrupt conduct that was occurring during the time that … was mayor.
“This included cash bribes of $40,000. Director of Planning … was also agitating about the bribery and corruption that was occurring.
“This was around the time of Hope Island and there is a list of projects that needed investigation. I will say for the record that huge corruption as going on.”
Mr Young alleged that anyone who made a complaint about corruption or raised internal concerns was harassed or attacked.
