MOTORISTS say they are suffering major damage to their cars because large rocks are “deliberately” being thrown onto an M1 service road.
Ormeau residents driving along Orange Mountain Road say they have reported repeated offences to police and Gold Coast City Council since August and want something done before someone is seriously hurt.
Aiden Dickens said his car hit some of the rocks, “launched off the road” and landed sideways.
“We need to sort this out before someone dies,” he said.
“I nearly ended up rolling in the ditch but I had to pull the handbrake and swing the car around to keep on the road,” he said.

He said he reported the incident to Queensland Police who he said came and cleared the rocks away, but Mr Dickson was disappointed it was still happening.
The car of another resident was so badly damaged after hitting a rock that the engine mount snapped.
Raluca Balint said she wrote a letter to the Gold Coast City Council, which replied by saying the “rocks on the road were potentially caused by an independent party” meaning council was not responsible for the damages.
“This accident caused my family significant financial detriment,” she said.
“We also incurred a significant emotional distress, especially my young son who was in the car at the time.”

A Gold Coast City Council spokeswoman said council could not comment on specific claims.
A police spokeswoman said no formal complaints had been made to police and the Coomera division police who service the Ormeau area were not aware of the issue.
She encouraged anyone witnessing the alleged culprits to notify police.
Another Ormeau resident, who did not want to be named, said she saw three piles of rocks while driving down Orange Mountain Rd this week. She and another drive stopped to remove the rocks.
“I would think if someone on a motorbike hit one it could possibly be fatal, or if a bike were behind a car that hit one and it flicked up.”
The rocks are believed to be from a ditch on the side of the road.
The woman suggested better lighting be installed, CCTV cameras or wire installed over the drainage rocks to stop them from being “hurled” on the road.
