A $600,000 grant program has been launch to help community groups bounce back from the devastating Christmas night storm.
The Gold Coast City Council-run program will be targeted at assisting not-for-profit organisations who helped during the storms which will be able toe secure grants of up to $20,000 each.
Mayor Tom Tate urged eligible groups to get applications filled in quickly.
“There are groups out there that mobilised on day one and haven’t stopped,” he said.
“They have used significant resources to help Gold Coasters in their hour of need and we want to bolster their reserves so they can keep it up as communities continue to recover.
“We are all in this together and the work being undertaken by these groups is invaluable and simply saying thank you is not always enough.”
A community wellbeing grant will also allow for groups who provide mental health services to get up to $100,000 to boost their reach and capacity.
Mr Tate said: “An increase in requests for psychosocial and mental health support due to anxiety, stress, uncertainty and trauma is an emerging issue.”
“It is vital these services are on the ground on the Gold Coast and available for everyone who needs them,” he said.
