Circus fun is coming to the North Shore these school holidays, with a Townsville circus school holding a workshop to allow young ones to burn off some energy and learn new skills in the process.

CircUP Arts are holding their school holiday workshop on the North Shore on January 20 and encouraging kids of all ages and abilities to come try their hand at juggling, tumbling, balancing and manipulation.

The CircUP Arts circus workshop will be held at The Green Community Centre in Burdell, running three separate sessions on the day for different age groups.

Circus co-ordinator Keryn Bowen said the school runs term-based workshops throughout the year from their centre in Aitkenvale and since opening in 2023 the school has massively grown in size over the last few years.

“When we kicked off we had one class running, which was just a general circus class,” she said.

“Nearly two years later we have 11 classes a week. We teach all ages, we have five to nine’s, 10 plus and our open training classes for adults.”

The schools also has equipment and classes of all ages and abilities in areas including aerial arts, silks, acrobatics and more.

“Our classes are doing really well, but we wanted to outreach that to the rest of the community out there,” Ms Bowden said.

“I’m actually a Northern Beaches girl, right out of Black River, and there’s a lot of demand up that way and we understand it’s hard to travel.”

Ms Bowen said the workshop day was a great way for kids to let off some steam these school holidays.

“That’s what circus is all about,” she said.

“This is where we use all parts of our bodies, it’s great for your body, brain and coordination skills.

The circus school is supported by Unique Partnerships, a disability support and services organisation.

The CircUP Arts School Holiday Workshops will be held on January 20 at the Green Community Centre in Burdell.

Five to eight years will run from 12:30 to 1:15pm, nine to 12 years from 1:30pm to 2:15pm and 13 to 16 years from 2:30pm to 3:15pm.

The cost is $10 per child. To register and for more information visit circuparts.com.au
