Five incidents of crime in Cairns in just three days have left multiple victims hospitalised.

On Tuesday, July 1, a 31-year-old Mareeba man allegedly approached a 65-year-old Pormpuraaw woman and punched her twice in the face, knocking her unconscious.

Emergency services were called to the scene at McLeod and Spence streets at 2.10am before she was taken to Cairns Hospital for head injuries.

Police located the alleged attacker a short distance away on Sheridan Street and charged him with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was refused bail and appeared in court on July 1.

The violence continued in a separate incident in Mooroobool on Wednesday afternoon when three men allegedly pursued a 40-year-old Bungalow man down Kingsford Street in a LandCruiser before assaulting him with a metal bar.

It is understood the group was arguing before the assault took place.

The victim sustained serious head, arm and leg injuries and was taken to Cairns Hospital.

The three Mooroobool men, aged 51, 46 and 47, face charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and stealing.

All three are scheduled to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 17.

Minors were involved in another violent incident when a 30-year-old man was allegedly set upon by a 25-year-old Manoora man and two children aged 12 and 13.

The attack occurred near Sheridan and Shields streets in Cairns North about 10.45pm on Monday, with the victim knocked to the ground and kicked before a passing driver intervened.

The trio fled toward Lake Street before City Safe Camera operators helped police identify and arrest all three.

The 25-year-old was charged with supplying liquor to a minor and two counts of common assault.

Both children were charged with common assault, with bail refused for all three.

The violence also extended to attacks on police when a 54-year-old man allegedly punched an officer in the face while being transported to Lyons Street, Portsmith.

The officer sustained bruising and required medical treatment.

The man was charged with serious assault police and remanded in custody.

On Monday evening a 29-year-old man allegedly approached a group outside a Cairns North business on Grove and Sheridan streets, kicking and punching a male on the ground before assaulting others who intervened.

Police located the man shortly after and charged him with public nuisance, stealing and failure to appear for previous matters.

The attacks follow a violent incident on a public bus on June 30 where a knife was held to a teenager’s back while three others were punched in the face.
