The Far North policing community is in mourning after the tragic discovery of the body of a loved and respected police officer.

The 50-year-old father-of-two Senior Constable Scott Duff was last seen around noon at a Slipper Street address in Edmonton on Monday, April 8.

His body was found following a wide-scale, week-long search of the southern suburbs with multiple appeals from police for CCTV footage.

It is understood there are no suspicious circumstances.

A formal identification process will be carried out.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The search has involved several crews including the Tactical Crime Squad, State Emergency Services volunteers and assets including drones and the Rescue 510 helicopter.

Police from Townsville and the southeast corner also joined the search for Constable Duff.

Last week, Superintendent Monique Ralph said Mr Duff’s disappearance was “very out of character” and that at that stage, there was no evidence of foul play.

“Scott is a much loved and valued member of the Queensland Police Service as well as the community,” she said.

“He’s a very well respected officer in that southern corridor having worked at Edmonton, Gordonvale and down in that area for roughly the last 20 years.

“His disappearance is also having an effect on our local police and our community, and we’ve been extremely overwhelmed with the support that the community has provided us.”

The greater Edmonton community showed an “overwhelming” amount of support to QPS and SES search efforts for Mr Duff, with donations of water and snacks arriving at the Edmonton SES unit on Hambledon Dr.

As well as working in Edmonton and Gordonvale, Mr Duff worked as a police officer in Yarrabah, where his supportive and generous nature earned him the longstanding respect of the community.

Police in a statement said the QPS would like to thank the public, media, and State Emergency Service volunteers and officers from other districts who supported the search effort.
