TODAY’S NEWS

Multiple arrests, Earlville and Mooroobool

Three juveniles have been arrested over a total of 14 charges by the Cairns Property Crime unit.

A 17-year-old Earlville girl was charged with two counts each of enter premise and stealing, one count of enter dwelling and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police will allege that on May 17 the girl walked into a Mount Sheridan bottle shop, picked up some alcohol before running from the shop.

“Later that same evening she was involved in a break in with a group of people at a Leftwich Street home in White Rock,” a Queensland Police spokesman said.

They will further allege she was captured on security footage in a stolen car, stealing fuel from a Cairns North service station on June 20.

Her bail was opposed, and she will appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.

A 16-year-old Cairns North boy was also charged with one count of stealing and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and a 17-year-old Earlville girl with two counts of stealing and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

“It will be alleged the pair were seen in a stolen car at a Cairns North service station stealing fuel on June 9,” the spokesman said.

Both were bailed to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court later this month.

TUESDAY’S NEWS

Serious charges, Earville

CAIRNS detectives have charged a 21-year-old man with 13 domestic violence related offences including deprivation of liberty, torture, choking and robbery.

Police from the Cairns Criminal Investigations branch (CIB) will allege the man held his 18-year-old female partner against her will at his Cairns home, threatening her on several occasions and becoming physically violent.

At around 3.30pm the woman was able to get away and raise the alarm.

Police attended the mans residence at around 6pm to make the arrest.

He was charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty, torture, choking and robbery, four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, three counts of common assault and two counts of threats.

He is shedueld to appear to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

MONDAY’S NEWS

Behana Gorge accident

Residents are advised to take care participating in water activities during the regions unseasonable rain after a man suffered an accident at a popular Far North waterfall.

Emergency services arrived on scene at Behana Gorge after a man fell down the rocky gorge.

He was attended to by two first aiders who were members of a canoeing tour happening nearby.

They assisted the man until Queensland Ambulance Service arrived at the bottom of the gorge at 10am.

The man sustained spinal injuries and was transported to Cairns Hospital at 12.15pm in stable condition.

Daintree drowning

Police are preparing a report for the coroner after a man died in the Daintree River around 2pm on Friday, July 1.

The man was retrieving crab pots from his dingy about 200 metres from the Daintree Village boat ramp when it is believed he fell from his boat.

No one else was in the dingy, however a nearby boatie observed he was no longer in the boat and tried to locate the man.

Around 4.30pm the deceased man, believed to be in his 70s, was located in the area he went missing.

Street disturbance

Early Saturday (July 2) morning police were called to a street disturbance after a large crowd

became involved in an alleged violent altercation on Lake Street.

Police alleged at around 3am several people started arguing outside a nightclub before it

became a physical altercation with one male being knocked unconscious.

Police arrested and charged eight people including six males and two females

A 19-year-old Thursday Island man was charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily

harm.

A 23-year-old Thursday Island man was charged with one count each of public nuisance and

obstruct police.

A 23-year-old Gordonvale woman was charged with one count each of public nuisance, obstruct police and wilful damage.

A 23-year-old Westcourt man and 22-year-old Edmonton man were charged with one count each

of public nuisance and obstruct police.

A 19-year-old Gordonvale woman was charged with one count each of public nuisance and

obstruct police.

Two males aged 19 and 26 both from Edmonton were charged with public nuisance.

All were granted bail and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 19.

Armed woman, Manunda

Police arrested and charged a 42-year-old Cairns North woman following an alleged incident at the intersection of James and Little streets on Friday (July 1).

Police alleged the woman chased a female cyclist and a passing car while wielding a large knife.

Police responded and were able to take the woman into custody with no further incident.

A search of the woman was conducted and a small amount of methylamphetamine was allegedly located.

Her bail was opposed and she was remanded to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 12. The woman was not known to the cyclist and car driver.

High range drink driver, Cairns North

Officers conducting patrols in Mckenzie St stopped a blue four-wheel drive yesterday (July 3)

at around 5.15pm

Police allege the vehicle was unregistered with seven occupants.

It will be alleged the returned a positive breath test of 0.238.

The mans licence was immediately suspended and he was charged with one count each of driving under the influence of liquor, driving unregistered vehicle and driving uninsured vehicle.

He was bailed to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 20.
