CAIRNS residents and business owners at a shopping centre next to the Smithfield Bypass have praised the multimillion project a week after its grand opening.
Olive Branch Coffee owner Petro Snell, who lives in Redlynch, said the $164 million project was shaving precious time off her daily commute.
“I’ve been using it and it is awesome, it will definitely make a big difference to the people of Cairns,” she said.
“Time is very important and everyone is busy, so any road or infrastructure that makes living a little bit easier is very welcome.
“It’s brilliant and takes at least five minutes off my trip.”
Nazar Zhydenko, who owns the Cairns Kebab House at the Campus Shopping Village, said the bypass was a “big win” for the city and would help with traffic congestion.
He was unsure whether it would have any affect on his business trade.
“I can’t see it being a bad thing,” he said.
“It will also be good to be able to travel to friends places a little bit easter.”
