Protesters descend on Cairns MP Michael Healy’s office amid chants of ‘listen to us’

More than a hundred anti-vaccine mandate protesters have marched outside their latest target’s office – presumably unaware he was not even in Cairns.

A CROWD of 100-odd protesters have marched on Cairns MP Michael Healy’s office in opposition to the state government’s vaccination mandates.

Amid chants of “listen to us” and “mandates no way”, the group made its way from William McCormack Place to Mr Healy’s office on Spence St.

Mr Healy was not in his office on Friday morning, but said ahead of the rally he respected their right to protest.

“I hope it’s done respectfully and I hope it’s done peacefully,” he said.

“All the government is trying to do is protect the lives of Queenslanders, and importantly, vulnerable Queenslanders.

“The science says vaccines are the best way out of this, and we’re following the science.”

Protesters were boisterous but peaceful.

Police officers watched on from a distance.

In addition to the vaccination mandates which came into play on Friday, Annastacia Palaszczuk at her morning press conference announced masks would be mandated from 1am Saturday indoors off the back of a “dramatic escalation in cases” in New South Wales.

There was a late surge in demand for vaccinations in the run up to Friday’s vaccine mandates coming into effect.
