Occupants of a Manoora home have had a lucky escape after a vehicle ploughed through a fence into the front yard after speeding away from a police traffic stop.
The badly damaged black Polestar sedan was loaded onto the back of a Barron River Towing flatbed truck at 2.45am on Thursday after coming to rest in the front yard of a Jensen St property.
After losing control the Swedish made electric vehicle, driven by an unknown person, also took out a power pole which caused supply disruptions to homes in Manoora, Edge Hill and Whitfield.
Police are in the process of investigating the crash and initial information indicates a patrol car attempted to pull over the black Polestar sedan on Little Pease St when it drove away at high speed.
It was a few minutes later that the vehicle collided with the fence of a Jensen St property.
Some have suggested, based on the driver running away from the $60,000 vehicle, that the car was stolen but police stated no such vehicle had been reported as outstanding.
Last month there were 66 cars stolen throughout the Cairns area in an increase on the 52 stolen in February.
So far this year 213 vehicles had been stolen within the greater Cairns area between Palm Cove and Gordonvale after 850 were stolen in 2024.
Police investigations into the Jensen St crash are continuing.
