Motorcyclist taken to hospital after single vehicle highway crash

Emergency services have taken a motorcyclist to hospital after a single vehicle crash on a busy Far North road. It comes off the back of a busy Saturday for paramedics, who were called to three separate serious incidents around FNQ.

UPDATE, 1.30PM SUNDAY: A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with neck, shoulder and wrist pain following a single vehicle crash on the Captain Cook Highway.

Paramedics assessed an injured motorbike rider who crashed on the highway at the Machans Beach Road roundabout about 12.30pm on Sunday.

Traffic was slowed through the roundabout as a result of the crash.

EARLIER 7PM SATURDAY: It’s been a busy day for emergency services around Far North Queensland, with the Rescue 510 helicopter called to three serious incidents including a man who fell more than 10m down a waterfall south of Innisfail.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man had fallen 10-12m down a waterfall at Murray Falls and received multiple fractures.

The man was transported to Cairns Hospital by the Rescue 510 helicopter, arriving around 6.45pm.

The helicopter was also called to assist with a “medical incident” that occurred on the Walshs Pyramid walking track, reportedly about 1km up the mountain.

Paramedics and firefighters made the trek to the patient, before they were flown to Cairns Hospital.

Around midday, the helicopter was also called to Crystal Cascades following an “immersion” incident.

The teenager was transported in a serious condition to Cairns Hospital.

EARLIER, 3PM: The Rescue 510 helicopter has taken off from Crystal Cascades in the Redlynch Valley with one patient on board following an immersion incident.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the patient in a serious condition was a man aged in his early teens.

“We just got a call to say he had been pulled from the water but I don’t know what activities went on before that,” she said.

EARLIER: The rescue helicopter has been called to a popular waterfall near Cairns to assist ground paramedics with an unfolding medical emergency at the same time crews were dispatched to a south Cairns peak.

The Rescue 510 helicopter has just touched down in a field close to the Crystal Cascades carpark in the Redlynch Valley.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a triple-0 call came in at 12.39pm but it remained unclear what had happened.

“We just need some update on what is going on, whether it’s a medical incident or a post immersion situation,” she said.

The spokeswoman said the incident took place about halfway up the path towards the main waterfall.

Meanwhile, emergency services are rushing to an unfolding incident at Walshs Pyramid.

A QAS spokeswoman said paramedics were heading to a reported medical incident – though it remained unclear exactly what had happened – on the Walshs Pyramid walking track at Aloomba.

The spokeswoman said the call came in about 12.49pm.

It is understood the patient is unconscious and located approximately 1km up the mountain.
