The first year of school is a big chapter in every child’s life and one that should be cherished. The Cairns Post looks back to the My First Year keepsake photos of 2021 preppies when its time for them to head to Year 1 classrooms as the school reopens on February 7.

We’re celebrating the milestone with a special My First Year keepsake liftout.

It features more than 1300 prep students from across the Far North.

Cairns Post editor Jennifer Spilsbury said there were few projects that melted the hearts of newspaper staff in their yearly grind more than preparing the annual My First Year feature.

She said it was a big logistical exercise but worth it.

“We hope that you enjoy this feature with all its little faces — as well as the faces of our hardworking educators — and it provides real joy,” Mrs Spilsbury said.
