Mission Beach crash: Man dies after truck strike at Porter Promenade, woman taken to hospital

A man has died after being hit by a truck, while a woman has been taken to hospital with injuries following an incident at a small Far North tourist town.

A man has died after being hit by a truck, while a woman has been taken to hospital following an incident on Wednesday morning.

Queensland Police at 2.30pm on Wednesday confirmed a 67-year-old man had died after being hit by a truck at Mission Beach about 11.30pm.

A 63-year-old woman also involved in the incident was taken to Innisfail Hospital with minor injuries.

In a statement, Queensland Police Service said the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating the death of the man and “anyone with information or relevant vision is urged to contact police”.

“Marine Parade is closed in both directions and Porter Promenade is closed between Boyett St to the north, and Campbell St to the south,” the statement read.

“Motorists are urged to find alternative routes and expect delays for several hours.”

Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman had confirmed crews responded to reports of truck running into a pedestrian on Porters Promenade at Mission Beach at 11.32am.

“We’re assessing and treating a female in her 60s with an arm injury,” the spokeswoman said.

“The other patient with life threatening injuries was a male in his 60s.”

A QPS spokeswoman confirmed crews were responding to a serious crash in Mission Beach around 11.30am.

“Initial reports indicate a vehicle and pedestrian collided on Marine Parade,” the spokeswoman said.

“Motorists are being urged to avoid the area.”

Marine Parade is closed in both directions and Porter Promenade is closed between Boyett Street to the north, and Campbell Street to the south.

Mission Beach is a small, coastal town located in the Cassowary Coast region 139km south of Cairns.
