The Australian Museum, in collaboration with Bowerbird Collective, have released 50 song frog calls album called Songs of Disappearance that they will go off like the proverbial frog in a sock and knock multi-award winning pop star Taylor Swift from the number one spot.

The album features one of Australia’s most threatened species, the Kuranda Tree Frog.

“We are showing promising signs that we’ll reach the top (of the ARIA charts),” Bowerbird Collective representative Anthony Albrecht said.

“We listen to the album many, many times, we fell in love with frogs even more by listening to it.”

Mr Albrecht said the initiative follows the company's successful collaboration with the Australian Museum in 2021 when it was asked to contribute to its bird life action plan by creating a multimedia experience.

The media and public quickly became aware of the cause, pushing sales and the album to hit number two on the ARIA charts — beating international stars Michael Buble, Ed Sheeran and Adele.

“The album was not just a gimmick, it was really important,” Mr Albrecht said.

“The message of the campaign was the state of the threatened species.”

The sound of the Kuranda Tree Frog was recorded by lead scientist for FrogID Jodi Rowley.

But will the Kuranda Tree Frog stand a chance against Taylor Swift?

It is all up to the public, Mr Albrecht said.

Songs of Disappearance is 3000 sales away from hitting first place, and Bowerbird Collective, the Australian Museum and Ms Rowley are all calling for the public to get behind the cause here before Thursday, December 8.

Proceeds from the album will go to supporting the Australia Museum’s FrogID project.

“It is really up to the Australian public to show up how much they love frogs,” Mr Albrecht said.

“I hope (they) will give frogs a chance and listen to some beautiful croaking.”

Taylor Swift was contacted for comment on her upcoming battle on the charts.
