Giant crocs arrive ahead of CrocArena launch

Two truly gargantuan crocodiles have traversed 1,700km in a finely-tune transport exercise ahead of the opening of a thrilling ‘swim with the salties’ experience next month

TWO giant crocodiles have been installed in their new home at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas ahead of the opening of ‘swim with a saltie’ experience CrocArena on August 20.

Wildlife Habitat Manager Rabecca Lynch said the move from Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast took six months to plan.

“It has been a massive process moving huge crocodiles 1,700km across Queensland,” she said.

“The Wildlife Habitat and Australia Zoo croc teams worked together to ensure a smooth and safe transition for capture, transport and release.”

Digger, who measures 4.5m, and Big Al took to the water at Port Douglas this week and a third crocodile, Ton, will join them later this year

Wildlife Habitat general manager Clare Anderson said the pair would make for a thrilling swim experience.

“We’ve been working very hard on rebuilding the park these last few years, and are now ready to amaze visitors from all around the world once borders reopen,” Ms Anderson said.

The ‘swim with the salties’ experience will allow guests to swim eye-to-teeth with the crocodiles as they lurk beneath the water and lunge for their meal.
