A FLYER containing what appears to be Covid-19 advice for parents to “stop, think and consider” before vaccinating their children has been slammed as “dangerous” and “concerning.”

Far Northern residents have reported receiving in their mailboxes, a double-sided flyer labelled: Covid-19 Vaccinations for Children: Top 10 Reasons to Stop, Think and Consider, from Children’s Health Defense Australia Chapter.

However, the flyer does not claim to subsidise official health advice.

Children’s Health Defense, a global organisation with its headquarters based in Peachtree City, Georgia, United States of America describes itself as a news and views website featuring “content aligned with the organisation’s mission to end childhood health epidemics.”

Far Northern residents have reported receiving the information in their mailboxes at Mossman, Craiglie, Cairns City and Mount Sheridan, with some taking to social media to ask “how can this be reported?”

Once made aware of the flyer, Cairns Regional Council Division 3 councillor Cathy Zeiger said the notes on the flyer were a great concern.

“You can have your own opinion, but it’s important to take your health advice from the correct health authority,” she said.

“Misinformation is dangerous, this is what can damage lives.”

Just weeks after launching Australia’s vaccination program for kids, Pharmacy Guild of Australia national president and Cairns pharmacist Trent Twomey also disapproved the flyer.

“It is not surprising there are efforts underway to spread claims about vaccination against COVID-19 which may not be accurate. Some claims, especially on social media, can come almost unsourced.

“I have a clear view on these matters. Our children who are now eligible for vaccination against Covid should have this vaccination, unless advised otherwise by a doctor or pharmacist.

“Australia’s high vaccination rate across the general population is a key reason why we have lower death and serious illness rates than most other nations.”

He said anyone wanting further information on vaccinations can access government websites including the federal Department of Health.

“Vaccination is the key to resuming a more normal Australian way of life, including social interaction which is vital for children’s development.

“Vaccination is also the key to our economic progress, allowing as many families as possible to get back to work – including those along the food and grocery, transport and essential goods supply chains.”

The Children’s Health Defense Australia Chapter has been contacted for comment.
