A Far North talent and former lychee farmer could be on the cusp of breaking into the mainstream music business after being awarded a golden ticket during the third round of Australian Idol auditions.
Former Mareeba State High School captain Clint Posselt advanced through to the top 30 contestants after combining an original rap with the 2008 Sam Sparro track Black and Gold.
In a nailbiting moment the 29-year-old from Mareeba faced off against another Queensland native, Jake Whittaker, however in a huge twist judges Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands handed both contestants a coveted golden ticket.
“Getting the yeses you feel a sense of achievement and when they put me in with Jake, I had no idea what was going to happen, I was terrified,” he said.
“We were both hanging on every word and to both get a ticket we are overjoyed.
“That was the best result, I couldn’t believe it, I’m very happy to be progressing to the next stage.”
No stranger to reality TV, Mr Posselt auditioned for The Voice Australia 2018 at which time he was living in Kewarra Beach and in 2023 the singer appeared on Channel 9’s Love Island Australia.
Posselt now joins 29 other finalists for the next round of Australian Idol.
After graduating high school in 2012 the talented young football player was signed to the NRL’s Melbourne Storm but decided to not chase a rugby league career.
“When I was in my early 20s football was everything and I found at that stage if you did not want that more than anything you would not make it,” he said.
He said if the show followed a similar format to season eight, the 30 finalists will be whittled down to 21 through a series of musical challenges.
“Being in my late 20s now this is my last opportunity to have a good crack and to launch myself into a music career and that is what I want,” he said.
Cairns musician Christina Roberts also went through the auditions process on the show on Tuesday evening but did not advance through to the next round.
