THE Cairns Post has taken the rides for a spin and sampled the food to help you plan your visit to this week’s Cairns Show.

When the three-day kicked off on Wednesday, our team was among the first to check out the action at the Cairns Showgrounds to give families are guide to the hottest attractions.

Thrill seekers can experience speeds on The Xtreme of up to 160km/h. The ride spins show-goers upside-down and is not for the faint of heart – nor is its fellow zoomer, The Big Whizzer which whips its riders around sharp corners in carriages.

Excited ride-goers Sareyah Dodd-Tran and Jotham O’Grady were heard wanting to ride The Big Whizzer again after enjoying the ride the first time.

For those riders not feeling the need for speed, the ferris wheel is a family favourite that cannot be missed giving you a bird’s-eye view of the Showgrounds and surrounds.

If you are feeling like a winner there’s is plenty of carnival games, from lucky ducks to a classic clowns game, with prizes galore to be won.

Stall operator and show lover Aime Boon said the event is fun for everyone.

“The show is so much fun, I especially love the showbags and food,” she said.

Those who would prefer to keep their feet on the ground, can take in plenty of entertainment including local arts, animals, produce and talent.

One local group called Flower Power comprises volunteers who make and sell handmade crafts including crocheted stuffed animals, bags and ornaments at the show with all funds raised going to the Cancer Council’s Queensland Cairns branch.

Volunteer Maureen Gardiner said the group is passionate about their work, and are always in need of more volunteers.

One show to watch is The Mad Hatteresses Interactive Musical Show which will have kids and adults laughing, singing and dancing.

To top off an amazing day at the show be sure to stay for the finale fireworks which will end the night with a bang on Thursday and Friday at 9pm.

If all the thrills, spills and laughs make you hungry there are plenty of food options at this year’s show including the classics like dagwood dogs and chicken nuggets with chips.

No show would be complete without showbags and this year’s line-up is bigger and better than ever.

Our best value picks are Bertie Beetle $5, Freddo Frog and Friends $12, Mega Wizz Fizz bag $20, Minecraft bag $35 and Little Mermaid bag $40.
