A parade of cars, motorbikes, and trucks will once again converge on the Cairns Showgrounds this weekend, as classic motoring enthusiast are expected to flocked to the showgrounds for the Cairns Swap Meet, Car Bike, and Truck Show.

The event on Sunday August 11 will have swap sites, stationary engines, vintage and modern show cars as well as motorcycles, trucks and old military vehicles.

Long time car enthusiast and event organiser, James Fuller said many hours had been spent by owners restoring and detailing their vehicles.

“We expect to see cars lined up around the block from 5.30am on wards, eager to get inside and set up,” he said.

Now more than two decades on, previous events showcased a large display of special interest vehicles from around the globe and Mr Fuller anticipates this year will not disappoint.

“American muscle cars, as well as the best British car section and restorers, so that’s like a lot of the olden day cars and then we’ll have a display of drag cars, motorbikes, Japanese, British and American,” he said.

“There’s something there for everyone”.

The one day judging event, including the “swap meet” gives owners the opportunity to show their vehicles to enthusiasts and the general public.

“We usually have over 140 swap sites, 130 cars and 100 motorcycles on site,” Mr Fuller said.

With show presentations commencing from 1pm, organisers said anyone wishing to enter their vehicles into the show for judging can do so on the day before entries close at 9am with judging starting at 9.30am sharp.

“Anyone can enter their car for judging, you just never know what might win,” he said.

“It really is a fantastic family day out, offering a nostalgic look at classic and new cars alike”.

The swap meet at the event has historically been a place where people can sell or trade items with a focus on car parts and accessories, however, over the years Mr Fuller said there has been a shift, with greater emphasis now being placed on diversity and family-friendly activities.

The event will also feature a vibrant atmosphere with great music, food, and stalls and despite a modest increase from the previous $3 fee, the event remains a cost-effective and enjoyable experience for all.

“With a $5 entry fee for adults and free admission for kids up to 17 years old, it’s an affordable outing,” Mr Fuller said.

Cairns Showground opens at 6am on Sunday with a portion of proceeds raised on the day from ticket entries, vendors contributions and raffle tickets going directly to charity and sports clubs who are apart of the event.
