Cairns real estate: Million dollar homes in surprise suburbs for 2022

Far North real estate is off to a cracking start for 2022 with more than a dozen properties in a range of suburbs breaking the million dollar mark. TAKE A PEEK INSIDE

The time it takes to save a deposit for a home has gotten 'longer and longer'

MORE than a dozen homes in Cairns broke the million dollar mark in the first quarter of 2022 – and the top prices were spread across some surprising suburbs.

The northern beaches somewhat dominated the elite end of the market in 2021, but homes in Bayview Heights, Edmonton, Stratford and Holloway’s Beach were among those to make the list for 2022 thus far.

A common theme is stellar prices for homes on expansive land or small acreage.

$2,080,000 – 430 Mayers St, Edge Hill

This sumptuous four bedroom home on a 1,596sq m block is at the end of a prestigious street backing on to rainforest. It is divided into two wings. The home was sold by Colliers international. Its price tag eclipsed $2,000,000 paid for 13ha of land at 701 Seclusion Drive, Palm Cove, the balance of Paradise Point Estate.

$1,700,000 – 13-15 Waterview Close, Kewarra Beach

No expense was spared when this stunning home was built and it has three master bedrooms. It is practically two homes in one, connected by a timber deck and pool.

$1,640,000 – 16 Coconut Street, Holloway’s Beach

This beachfront residence sold in January, possibly setting a new suburb record for Holloway’s beach. The five bedroom, three bathroom house called Mira Vista has understated glamour with designer features.

$1,620,000 – 109 Summerhill Drive, Mooroobool

Summerhill Drive is a dress circle address and this five bedroom, three bathroom home with sensation views and two pools is right at home in the premier street. The multilevel home makes the most of its position with an array of balconies and decks.

$1,425,000 – 28/9 Savalli Close, Palm Cove

This commanding home with ocean views is in a league of its own. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a self-contained apartment on the lower level and is in the exclusive gated community Montari. Palm Cove properties regularly feature in the top sales for the Far North.

$1,411,700 – 61 Old Smithfield Road, Freshwater

On an elevated 2,971sq m block, this luxury residence has a separate two bedroom guesthouse above the triple garage. It has three enormous bedrooms on the upper level and a sensational kitchen

$1,400,000 – 77 Walsh Street, Edge Hill

This fully renovated home has features such as polished black bean floors, soaring ceilings, timber casement windows and French doors and is on a 1,480sq m block. Built in the 1950s, it has only changed hands twice. It was sold by Joan Robb of RE/MAX.

$1,400,000 – 4 Woodlands Ave, Edge Hill

This spectacular and private home has extensive timber decking to make the most of glorious views, soaring ceilings and beautiful design. Its sale further entrenches Edge Hill as a premium Cairns suburb. It was sold by LJ Hooker Edge Hill.

$1,390,000 – 2 Trundle Terrace, Whitfield

Built in 1996 on a 2,275sq m block, this three bedroom home hit the market for the first time ever and the five bedroom, three bathroom house found plenty of admirers.

$1,375,000 – 119 Harbour Drive, Trinity Park

The sale of this canal front property cements Harbour Drive in the Bluewater Estate as millionaire’s row. The modern, but compact, home has its own private pontoon. It was sold by Derek Mahony of Ray White Cairns Beaches.

$1,300,000 – 141 Telecom Road, Bellenden Ker

This beautiful equestrian property in a sought after Cassowary Coast location was sold by Robyn Hawley-Whitton of Cairns Property Office. The 13.86ha property has a sprawling six bedroom home and its own creek and waterholes.

$1,200,000 – 26 Behan Street, Stratford

This home appears relatively modest from the outside but has a rock star interior with bifold doors opening the home to the outdoors and glorious views. Polished timber floors and black stone benches add to its appeal.

$1,185,000 – 8 Waterfall Close, Edmonton

This stunning country home on .53ha could easily belong on a movie set. It has two stories including a self-contained granny flat, and an attic – a light-filled area with a guest bedroom, bathroom, man cave, games room, cinema and a breathtaking workspace.

$1,002,500 – 15 Kawana St, Caravonica

This executive home on a prestige street has some eye-catching design features and a huge pool and spa. It was sold by RE/MAX.

$1,000,000 – 1 Crest Close, Bayview Heights

Cherished by a generation of a prominent Cairns family, this is a classic home ideal for an outdoor lifestyle, sitting on 1,635sq mof meticulously landscaped gardens and lawns. It was sold by Therese Plath of Ray White Cairns South.
