Cairns New Year’s Day baby, beautiful and healthy Tamila

Born in Cairns on New year’s Day, baby Tamila may have arrived a bit earlier than planned, but she also brought a whole lot of love with her, said mum Tamekka Hunting.

The world welcomes 2022 with New Year's celebrations

NOTHING could dim the glow of new mum Tamekka Hunting following the New Year arrival of her bouncing baby daughter.

The proud first-time mum delivered Tamila Hunting at 1.13am on New Year’s Day after an lengthy 16-hour labour.

Little Tamila tipped the scales at 3.3kg, which is quite impressive considering she was a few weeks early.

“When they put her on my chest I just fell in love and (knew) all the hard work was done,” she said.

“And she didn’t cry at all. When we were going to sleep I just put her on my boob and she fell asleep.”

The new addition to the family makes five living generations on Ms Hunting’s mother’s side of the family.

Relatives anxious to greet the bundle of joy were queuing up at outside the door of the Cairns Hospital maternity ward on Saturday to meet the new arrival.

“Everyone says she looks a lot like me,” she said.

Ms Hunting said the new baby was feeding well and she was just grateful to have a happy healthy baby.

Born on the first day of the New Year made the arrival that much more special.

Despite the loving eyes of Little Tamila looking up in awe of her mother and the obvious new baby joy, Ms Hunting had already made a decision about another addition to the family.

”I’m only having one after all of that, one’s enough for me,” she said.
