Cairns police have arrested a high-ranking member of the Cairns City Mongols outlaw biker group after raiding a number of properties throughout Cairns.

On November 20 officers attached to Operation Victor Jenga executed search warrants at four properties in Kewarra Beach, Mount Sheridan, Holloways Beach, and Cairns City.

It will be alleged police seized a quantity of cocaine, dexamphetamine, steroids, cash, electronic devices, and Mongols paraphernalia.

Police further allege a Holloways Beach property was used as a meeting location for outlaw motorcycle gang members.

Cairns City Mongols president Shannon Brian Chapple, 37, was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of possessing schedule 1 dangerous drug, possess S4 medicine, possess property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence, and breach of bail.

In video of the arrest released by Queensland Police prescription drugs were allegedly found hidden in a bathroom vanity and various Mongols patches, belts and jackets were also found at the property.

At the time of Friday’s arrest the 37-year-old Kewarra Beach man was on Supreme Court bail for possessing steroids and cocaine.

He will be sentenced for old charges on Thursday.

Mr Chapple was remanded in custody on new charges and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on December 19.

A 33-year-old Kewarra Beach woman was charged following the northern beaches raid with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing schedule 1 dangerous drug exceeding schedule 3 but not 4.

She is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 3.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace from the Far North Major and Organised Crime Squad said police are continuing to target outlaw motorcycle gang members in Cairns.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach against the violence and criminality of OMCGs and their disregard for public safety,” Detective Senior Sergeant Grace said.

“Outlaw motorcycle gangs are not welcome in the Far North, and we will not tolerate any behaviour that causes fear and harm in our community.”
