THE latest data on Covid-19 cases in each Far Northern suburb shows exactly where the virus is most heavily concentrated as officials reveal fresh details on the region’s peak.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Thursday Queensland’s hospitalisations had peaked and were going down.

She said the Gold Coast, metro North, and West Moreton were well past their peak while Metro South, Sunshine Coast, Cairns had just passed the peak.

Townsville, Wide Bay and Torres Cape are just approaching the peak while Darling Downs and central Queensland are yet to peak.

“It means that our precautions and planning are working,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

Earlier in the week, Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service chief executive Tina Chinery said the region’s peak was estimated to have occurred in late January.

“However, we will be able to confirm this in the coming week,” she said.

“The ICU bed requirement peaked on 27 January and we currently still have four people in ICU. Most people in ICU have had significant comorbidities and have not received a booster.”

In the vaccination race, as of February 7, the Cairns Regional Council area had 91.7 per cent of its population over 16 years of age fully vaccinated.

For Cassowary Coast it was 90 per cent, Douglas at 88.8 per cent, followed by Tablelands at 89.5 per cent, Mareeba was at 80.3 per cent and Yarrabah was at 69 per cent.
