Cairns Athletics will not run at Barlow Park in 2020

Cairns Athletics will not run a 2020 season out of Barlow Park.
The immense, five-figure financial cost of hiring the Barlow Park track, which they said cost $12,000, coupled with regular running costs, the lack of a canteen to generate more revenue, and the heightened demand on volunteers and officials made running this season virtually impossible.
Rather than risk long-term damage from trying to run a season, members will be encouraged to compete at and support events run by the neighbouring Marlin Coast or Mulgrave Athletics Clubs.
They can apply for a refund on their fees for 2020.
The Cairns Athletics executive will now turn their focus to 2021, as they put time into strategically planning the 2021 Coral Coast and Great Barrier Reef Masters Games, as well as ensuring the club can return next year.
