A serial flasher from the Toowoomba area caused fear and havoc across Brisbane when he threatened the lives of police and the public.

Brisbane man Kerryn James McKellar, 38, pleaded guilty to several weapons, public nuisance and indecent act offences, committed between November 2023 and May 2025, before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, July 29.

Prosecution told the court McKellar, who has ties to Toowoomba and Cunnamulla, exposed his erect penis to a female clerk in a Longreach retail store in 2023.

The woman fled out of fear, locking herself in the bathroom before calling police who found McKellar in an adjoining lane with a knife and exposed blade in his pocket.

The court further heard McKellar threatened members of the public on multiple occasions, including an incident following the 2024 Ekka fireworks and a physical altercation with an Uber rider in 2025.

Prosecution said McKellar was approached by police outside the Fortitude Valley train station on Ekka opening night where he threatened to stab those around him, in earshot of young children and families.

McKellar was heard yelling, “I’m sick of these c***s, I’ll stab some c**ts”.

A pair of scissors and a knife were found in his possession.

Months later, police were called to a street altercation in Bowen Hills where McKellar had punched an Uber rider and further threatened to punch and stab a group of people at a nearby address.

He was also found threatening passers-bys outside Heritage Lanes in Brisbane City and along Turbot street in two separate incidents, on each occasion carrying a knife.

For all charges, police believed McKellar to be heavily intoxicated.

Defence solicitor Alysha Jacobsen said McKellar had struggled with alcohol abuse for some time.

“He said the issue has been for quite a few years now,” she told the court.

“He does instruct though that he has slowed down quite a lot in the last few months.

“He instructs that he would previously drink up to six bottles of wine a day; he said that now he has reduced that significantly so that one bottle may last him two days.”

She added McKellar had no memory of his offending due to his intoxication and had only carried a knife for his protection while living rough.

Ms Jacobsen assured McKellar had attempted to tackle his alcohol issues, having completed a 13-week live-in rehabilitation program last year.

“It is not through lack of trying, he does wish to continue to get support,” she said.

McKellar was sentenced to 12 months probation, with stipulation he must complete any counselling for indecent exposure and alcohol misuse as directed by a correctional officer.

A suspended sentence breached by McKellar as a result of some of his offending was extended by three months.

Convictions were recorded.
