A student on their way home from a school in Moreton Bay narrowly avoided being run over by a car as he stepped out in front of traffic leading to a terrifying near miss.

Video shows a group of school students crossing the road in Bribie Island on the afternoon of March 4 after exiting a bus.

One schoolboy steps out in front of oncoming traffic, straight into the path of a silver Kia hatchback.

Members of the community took to social media to express their shock and concern over the near miss.

“It is not a crossing, none of them should cross there,” said one user.

“I just hope it was a lucky lesson to the kid and their mates that saw how close it was to being a very different outcome,” said another commenter on Facebook.

“He is so lucky and I feel for the poor driver and hope they are ok too,” they said.

“I had a close call once when a kid was at a red walk sign, darted out on a scooter, scared the hell out of both of us.

“Somebody at the school needs to teach (him) road safety again.”
