Police have slapped a truck driver with a number of offences after he was allegedly found lying drunk on the side of a busy road with an empty bottle of liquor next to him.
Officers discovered the 44-year-old Mango Hill man lying flat on the side of Dreamworld Parkway on Queensland’s Gold Coast at 10am on Tuesday.
Police allege he was in a drunken state with an empty vodka bottle beside him and his shoes off.
Dream World can be seen in the background of the video, just metres away.
The man’s truck was left running with body cam footage of the incident showing the windscreen wipers and hazard lights were also left on while he was outside the vehicle.
“Hey buddy, you all right? What’s going on?” the two officers were heard saying on video as the man lay facedown in the grass.
Police have also accused him of resisting officers, with video showing him allegedly swinging his hands away from police as they try to take him into custody.
He allegedly pushes an officer while trying to flee back to the vehicle before he is slammed face down into the ground by police.
The two officers transported him to the Southport Watchhouse where he allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.311, more than six times the legal limit.
He was charged with driving while under the influence of liquor and obstructing police.
His license was suspended immediately and he will appear before Southport Magistrates Court on January 10.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam vision to contact investigators.
Sergeant Neville Stretton from Coomera station said drink driving was a contributing factor in more than 20 per cent of road fatalities in Queensland.
“Too many people are killed and seriously injured each year on Queensland roads as a result of drink driving,” he said.
