An Aussie TikTok star has revealed the moment she nearly fell into a flood of tears following a shock interaction at a Bali restaurant.
Montana On Tour, a young Australian who posts about life in Australia, Bali and Europe, told her 56,000 followers about a recent dinner she had on the Hindu island, where an Indonesian waitress did not ask for her name but instead used a term from Bahasa, the national language of Indonesia, to tell her apart from the other customers.
The waitress wrote out “Ms Cantik”, which translates to “Miss Beautiful” in English.
In a TikTok, Montana said, “I bet you she was not expecting me to know this word in Indonesian, but I knew it.”
“And I go ‘girl, you don’t have to call me that’.”
Montana found out about her “cantik” designation because it was written out on her receipt.
“If you don’t believe me, here is the receipt. Let me tell you, I almost cried.”
Fellow Tiktokkers were touched by the sweet act.
“Beautiful people,” one commenter said referring to Indonesians, while another said “I was thinking it was something rude but how stupid of me to forget that Indo(nesians) esp in Bali are the loveliest ppl haha”.
Montana said in reply: “the world doesn’t deserve the Balinese ppl they’re so sweet kind cute lovely.”
Bali continues to entrance Australian travellers.
Data from Bupa Travel Insurance shows Indonesia remained Australia’s most popular travel destination for 2023, followed by the United States, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
