The two men charged over a brutal alleged gunshot murder of a father will not enter their pleas until they first view crucial CCTV footage in the case.

Jamie Mark Carter, 43, and Michael Craig Stanley, 44, have been charged with the murder of Glenn Michael Holton, 41, with the police alleging Mr Stanley shot a .22 calibre bullet into Mr Holton’s chest in a love triangle blast of violence.

The shooting allegedly occurred about 9.20pm on December 11, 2022, at Edwardstown in Adelaide’s south, with Mr Holton and Mr Stanley both allegedly romantically linked to the same woman.

At the time of Mr Holton’s death, Mr Stanley, Mr Carter and the woman were all living together at a Morphett Vale address.

Mr Holton was the woman’s former partner. She is not accused of any wrongdoing

Defence lawyer Sean Nottle, appearing for Mr Stanley and Mr Carter before magistrate Brian Nitschke at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday, said the men would not enter their pleas until a viewing of crucial CCTV footage was arranged.

“Both parties have yet to view the CCTV footage relevant to the matter,” he said.

“I’ve been in discussion with the detectives from Major Crimes. There is going to be a viewing next week.

“We are just not in a position to answer the charges formally until we have been able to see that footage.”

Mr Stanley and Mr Carter are both on remand and appeared together via videolink.

The police allege Mr Stanley shot Mr Holton once in the chest and then fled the scene.

Emergency services raced to the alleged shooting on Dunorlan Rd and took Mr Holton to Flinders Medical Centre, where a .22 calibre bullet was removed from his chest.

At an earlier appearance at Port Adelaide Magistrates Court, the police said Mr Stanley denied owning a rifle, but the woman told them that Mr Stanley had a .22 calibre rifle wrapped in plastic and cloth at their address.

“With respect to the relationship between the victim, (the woman) and the accused (Mr Stanley), (she) had been continuing to see the victim leading up to this incident and was actually with him on the 11th of December,” the police told the court.

“There’s evidence which establishes the accused did not like the victim hanging around.”

Mr Nitschke adjourned the case to January 31, 2024 for the men to enter their pleas.
