The heartbroken girlfriend of murdered brother Callum Robinson has remembered him as “one of the most beautiful and loving souls”, sharing pictures of their adventures together amid an outpouring of grief across the nation.
Emily Horwath, who was dating the 33-year-old Perth man at the time of his ill-fated Mexico trip, broke her silence earlier this week with a touching story on her Instagram page remembering the fond memories they shared.
The couple were living together in San Diego in the US and Ms Horwath had shared pictures of her trip to Australia to visit Callum, including trips to Perth, Rottnest Island and Melbourne.
“My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I don’t have the words right now,” Ms Horwath wrote on her Instagram story earlier in the week.
In another video of the couple dancing, she described Callum as “truly one of the most beautiful and loving souls”, while in another image she remembered how he treated her best friends like they were his own.
“The world is an evil place, but I won’t let it stop me from spreading the kindness you brought into this world,” Ms Horwath wrote.
Callum, his 30-year-old brother Jake and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, were killed in a bungled robbery while camping at San Miguel beach in the Mexican state of Baja California last month.
The trio vanished on April 27 – their bodies being pulled out of a well a week later after a desperate search by authorities.
At the time, Callum was living with Ms Horwath and pursuing his dream of becoming a professional lacrosse player.
She had already shared his final voicemail left before his disappearance.
In the message, Callum is heard saying: “Happy Tuesday, good morning! It’s 11.11 and I’m just thinking about you. Just wanted to drop you a quick message and say, hello baby, hope you’re having a phenomenal start to your day. I’m sensing a big grin on your face for some reason today. I hope you’re full of positivity and smiles. Cheers baby, miss you.”
Ms Horwath had previously shared snapshots of a jam-packed trip to Australia with Callum around Christmas last year.
The couple were snapped together enjoying a cricket match, ziplining over the Swan River and enjoying travels through caves and around Perth.
“For holidays/birthdays Cal and I always bought each other experiences that we could share together,” Ms Horwath revealed in her story.
“For Christmas he gifted me a bridge climb and zip line knowing my fear of heights he always tried to push me outside of my comfort to enjoy things I would never do on my own.”
In another picture, she said Callum had changed her life “in ways that I can’t even put into words”.
“I don’t yet understand a world without his energy in it.
“I feel so grateful to have loved him. Tell your people you love them. Live life to the fullest every day, be kind to others, laugh uncontrollably, don’t let the small stuff bother you, lead with positivity and live like Cal,” she wrote.
Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, Ari Gisel García Cota and Cristian Alejandro García have been arrested over the deaths of the Robinsons and Mr Rhoad.
On Monday, Baja California Attorney-General Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez said authorities believed the trio’s deaths were a result of an attempted carjacking.
Further arrests have not been ruled out.
