A-League cellar dwellers Melbourne Victory have bolstered their attacking stocks for the rest of the season with signing of Bruce Kamau.
Kamau, 27, has joined the Victory on loan from Greek Super League club OFI Crete.
The former Australian under-23 international has previously had spells with three other A-League clubs – Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City and Adelaide United – and won the championship with the Reds in 2016.
Victory coach Tony Popovic, whose attacking stocks have been hit with Nani’s season-ending knee injury and Nick D’Agostino’s departure for Norwegian club Viking, said Kamau would add a “dynamic element” to his side.
“Bruce is a talented forward who has proved himself at A-League level and we’re looking forward to bringing his experience and attributes into our side,” Popovic said.
“Bruce has spent some time in a European league to progress as a footballer and we believe the environment at Melbourne Victory will allow us to bring the best out of him.”
Kamau, who is available for selection on Friday night when the Victory host Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park, said he was “thrilled to be heading back to the A-League” after 18 months in Greece.
“I’ll be looking to use this period to give everything I have for the club and the fans, and to help lift Melbourne Victory to where they belong,” he said.
The Victory have lost eight of their 13 matches this season, and are yet to recover – on and off the field – from the sanctions imposed on them after a group of their fans invaded the pitch during December’s Melbourne derby.
