A Melbourne op shop has become the victim of a vile anti-vax attack after staff attempted to enforced vaccine rules.

The incident took place at the Vinnies in Frankston, in the city’s south, and involved human faeces being smeared across the store’s entrance.

One local woman took to social media to share a photo of the confronting scene and slammed the attack as “utterly disgusting”.

“The lengths some people will go to because they are rejected from a store because they aren’t vaccinated,” she said.

“It doesn’t give you the right to deface a store because you’re not allowed in.”

St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria also hit back at the incident and confirmed it took place in response to a shopper being asked to verify their vaccination status.

It comes just weeks after the state made it mandatory for every eligible Victorian to be fully vaccinated before entering a non-essential retail premises.

The rule change has resulted in a spike in mistreatment against retail workers, according to the Australian Retailers Association.

ARA chief executive officer Paul Zahra last week made an appeal in an open letter to Premier Daniel Andrews detailing the “enormous challenges” facing the retail sector.

“Our members have reported thousands of incidences of customer aggression including many acts of significant violence towards retail staff,” Mr Zahra said.

“The reports of customer aggression are coming from a broad range of retailers – from department stores to hardware stores, along with small businesses and even charity shops.
