A woman was allegedly bundled into a Tesla, assaulted and kept against her will in a quiet Canberra suburb, with police now desperately searching for witnesses.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an alleged family violence incident on Thursday, where a woman left a Franklin residence on foot about 5pm.

Police say the woman walked towards the nearby Nullarbor Ave light rail stop where she was approached by a man driving a white Tesla bearing ACT registration YQC69P a short time later.

The man allegedly arrived at the light rail stop, and asked the woman get in the vehicle.

As the woman got into the vehicle, the man allegedly began to drive away with the passenger door still open.

Police believe the woman may have called out to other road users for help while in the car.

Police allege that the woman was not allowed to leave the car while being driven around the Gungahlin region, where the man has allegedly assaulted the woman a number of times.

The car eventually stopped on the side of the road near Haydon Dr, Bruce, where both the man and woman got out of the car.

Police alleged the pair then both got back into the car after a few minutes before driving to the Gungahlin region again.

The woman was eventually able to leave the man’s residence about 7.30pm on Thursday.

She then went to a friend’s place to seek refuge before contacting police.

Police were conducting mobile patrol in Gungahlin when they saw the man driving the Tesla about 11.10am on Friday.

He was arrested and charged with three offences – forcible confinement, choke, suffocate, or strangle another person, and recklessly inflict actual bodily harm.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or seen the Tesla being driven in Gungahlin or Belconnen on Thursday to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
