The family of a man who has been behind bars since May will have to wait until September to see him in court again – where he’s facing a murder charge and more.

Kaine Fisher, 22, had his matter mentioned in the Alice Springs Local Court last Thursday afternoon.

Mr Fisher’s family filled the tiny upstairs courtroom where his matter was mentioned before Judge David Woodroffe, who adjourned the matter to September.

His family waited all day to catch a glimpse of Mr Fisher, the court heard, who has been on remand since his arrest in May.

He was arrested in connection to a violent daylight stabbing on Gregory Tce, in the Alice Springs CBD, on May 15.

A 27-year-old male was stabbed – in front of shocked onlookers – and on July 4, he died, NT Police confirmed via a statement.

Mr Fisher was originally charged with intending to cause serious harm, causing any harm, and going armed in public.

But after the 27-year-old’s death, Mr Fisher was further charged with murder.

He first appeared in court on May 19, and has been on remand ever since.

No plea was entered on his behalf at his first appearance, and no plea was entered again on Thursday.

Little detail as to Mr Fisher’s alleged offending was brought before the court on Thursday, where prosecutor Dan Payne said an upgraded charge had been laid in the case.

He sought an adjournment, citing an incomplete brief as to why.

Mr Fisher’s defence lawyer Christine Callaghan did not oppose the adjournment, but asked if Mr Fisher could appear via videolink at his next appearance.

Mr Fisher is also facing aggravated assault charges on another unrelated file, which Judge Woodroffe said was a domestic violence matter.

Both of his files will be back in the Alice Springs court on September 4, as will Mr Fisher – via videolink – with Judge Woodroffe granting Ms Callaghan’s request.
