There are many theories for how exactly the world came to be.
Some may say it was a result of the Big Bang; others, divine creation.
But Katie Harder, the long-time Alice Springs folk singer-songwriter, has a different theory.
“What if you could sing a new world into existence?,” she says.
Her new single, Oceans Road, is an attempt to do just that.
Inspired by the pictures of Aslan roaring a new world to life in C.S. Lewis’ book ‘The Magician’s Nephew’, Harder aims to capture these ideas in her new song, bringing them to life with high melodies mixed with her unique fingerpicking guitar style.
Recorded in her home studio, The Sound Pit, Harder’s track, made in collaboration with fellow musician and friend Xavi Nou, who plays the cello, takes listeners for a journey.
Nou’s track weaves around Harder’s melodies to create a stand-alone tune.
Harder said she felt nervous when she first began writing her single, which was part of an I Heart Songwriting group weekly challenge.
“I felt nervous starting this song, as it felt like a huge honour to explore a new world,” she said.
“I immediately thought of Aslan, the Lion in the Narnia books, as he sings the new world into existence.
“I took this idea and sung a new world into existence with it. I’ve tried new things here and it remains unresolved at the story continues.”
Oceans Roar will be released under local label ‘Sing Hum’ of which Dave Crowe – owner and founder – has had a deep connection with this album as a mentor to Katie as she transitioned from singer-songwriter to producer/engineer throughout the project.
Oceans Roar will be available on all streaming platforms from April 17 and is the third and final single to before she releases her full album in June.
